Contribution of pre-equilibrium gluons to J/Ψ suppression in Lead-Lead collisions at 158AGeV

چکیده
We point out that dissociation of J/Ψ by partons (mostly gluons) produced in semi-hard nucleon-nucleon sub-collisions may explain at least a part of the spectacular J/Ψ suppression observed recently by the NA-50 Collaboration in Pb-Pb interactions at the CERN-SPS.Our arguments are based on a model in which individual nucleon-nucleon interactions in heavy ion collisions are harder than interactions between free nucleons due to the Landau-Pomeranchuk effect. Suppression by semi-hard partons represents an additional factor to the Gerschel-Hüfner mechanism of J/Ψ suppression by nucleons. Conclusions we are able to make are to be considered as rather qualitative since accurate estimates of various parameters used are not available. We make a conjecture that the new phenomenon observed by the NA-50 Collaboration is connected with a large density of gluons produced in semi-hard nucleonnucleon collisions. The density approaches or slightly exceedes in a small volume and for a short time the critical density required for the phase transition to QuarkGluon Plasma.

Contribution of intermediate stage gluons to J/Ψ suppression in Lead-Lead collisions at 158AGeV
We point out that dissociation of J/Ψ by partons (mostly gluons) present in the intermediate stage of heavy-ion collisions can explain J/Ψ suppression observed recently by the NA-50 Collaboration at the CERN-SPS in Pb-Pb interactions. Suppression by intermediate stage gluons represents an additional multiplicative factor to that given by GerschelHüfner mechanism. The agreement with data on J/Ψ ...
متن کاملPredictions for J / ψ Suppression by Parton Percolation
Parton percolation provides geometric deconfinement in the pre-equilibrium stage of nuclear collisions. The resulting parton condensate can lead to charmonium suppression. We formulate a local percolation condition viable for non-uniform collision environments and show that it correctly reproduces the suppression observed for S − U and P b − P b collisions at the SPS. Using this formulation, we...

Prompt gluons are an additional source for charmonium suppression in nuclear collisions, in particular for nucleus-nucleus collisions. These gluons are radiated as bremsstrahlung in N-N collisions and interact inelastically with the charmonium states while the nuclei still overlap. The spectra and mean number n g of the prompt gluons are calculated perturbatively and the inelastic cross section...
متن کاملSuppression of ψ′ and J/ψ in High-Energy Heavy-Ion Collisions
The experimental ratio of ψ to J/ψ is approximately a constant in pA collisions, but decreases as the transverse energy increases in nucleus-nucleus collisions. These peculiar features can be explained as arising from approximately the same cc̄-baryon absorption cross section for ψ and J/ψ but greater disruption probabilities for ψ than for J/ψ due to the interaction of the cc̄ system with soft p...
متن کاملThe effects of gluon depletion on J/ψ suppression in pA and AA collisions
The enhanced suppression of J/ψ production at large xF in pA collisions is studied in the framework of gluon depletion at large x1. The nonperturbative process that modifies the gluon distribution as the gluons propagate in nuclear matter is described by an evolution equation with a kernal to be determined by phenomenology. With nuclear shadowing and anti-shadowing taken into account, the effec...
